Who We Are

Since its founding in 1968, Cornell SPS has been dedicated to serving not only the undergraduate physics community but anyone interested in physics. Our mission centers on providing guidance, inspiration, and profitable experiences for physics students of all backgrounds. We are centered on showing how physics is important, and inspiring others to see its worth.

Education and Careers

By providing valuable education to physics undergraduates from fellow students, graduate students, and faculty, Cornell SPS helps the university's undergraduate physics community achieve the best they can, setting them up for success and future careers in the field.

Guidance: Every Step of the Way

Cornell SPS is rooted not only in advice from faculty but in peer mentorship. By allowing fellow students to engage with and learn from each other through Cornell SPS's peer mentorship program, new undergraduates have the opportunity to gain strong experience and understanding of the route to graduation from the very start. If desired, every prospective physics major has the opportunity to have a peer mentor, often shared with another student.

Fireside Chats

Cornell SPS frequently hosts "fireside chats" with faculty where professors will share their own stories in physics, discuss their research, and answer questions from undergraduates. A wide variety of faculty are interviewed, so there is much to learn across a wide variety of topics in physics!

SPS Wiki

Cornell SPS maintains a detailed wiki describing physics and mathematics course catalogs, advice for undergraduates and the path to graduate school, and a wide variety of other essential information for physics majors.

Further Information

Cornell SPS regularly posts across various platforms, which can be accessed at the foot of this webpage. There, we announce upcoming events and provide additional ways for students to get involved. We encourage all undergraduates read the Department's website pages to gain essential information about research and other opportunities.
